Daniel Korski QUITS Tory London mayor candidate race after being accused of groping a TV producer while working as a Downing Street aide
- Daisy Goodwin, creator of hit ITV drama Victoria, says he touched her breast
- Mr Korski has vehemently denied the claim about an incident in 2015
The Tory frontrunner to take on London mayor Sadiq Khan abandoned his campaign today after being officially accused of groping a television producer.
Daniel Korski said he was no longer running to get the Conservative nomination in the capital amid claims he touched the breast of a woman while working for David Cameron in Downing Street.
Daisy Goodwin, the creator of hit ITV drama Victoria, alleges he molested her around a decade ago when she came to No10 to discuss a programme idea.
Mr Korski has vehemently denied the claim, but the publicity led to several high-profile backers ‘pausing’ their support amid calls for an investigation.
Today he bowed to the increasing pressure on his campaign, announcing he was no longer in the running, meaning it is now a two-horse race between long-serving London Assembly member Susan Hall and Moz Hossain, a political unknown.
In a statement this afternoon he said: ‘I have been clear I would welcome and constructively participate in any investigation.
‘However, the pressure on my family because of this false and unproven allegation and the inability to get a hearing for my message of ”The London Dream” makes it impossible for my campaign to carry on.’
Today Ms Goodwin, creator of ITV‘s Victoria series, told the Daily Mail that three women have been in touch with her since she went public.
Tory London mayoral hopeful Daniel Korski is facing a deepening crisis over his campaign to take on Sadiq Khan after another minister ‘paused’ support amid allegations he groped a celebrated TV producer.
The creator of hit ITV drama Victoria said Mr Korski groped her breast during a visit to No 10 around a decade ago when he was an adviser to former prime minister David Cameron
Children and families minister Claire Coutinho became the latest frontbencher to distance themselves form his efforts, after Daisy Goodwin filed an official complaint against him.
Tory education minister Robert Halfon reportedly ‘paused’ his support for the businessman and entrepreneur yesterday. And other senior Tories , including Levelling Up Secretary Michael Gove and former Cabinet Minister Nadhim Zahawi , remained silent over whether they were still backing him.
Two are said to have held Government-related roles while the third worked in the tech industry.
